The Top 10 Mistakes in Online Business
Every week we talk with entrepreneurs. We talk about what’s working and what isn’t. We talk about successes and failures. We spend time with complete newbies, seasoned veterans, and everything in between.
One topic that comes up over and over again with both groups is mistakes made in starting businesses. Newbies love to learn about mistakes so they can avoid them. Veterans love to talk about what they wish they had known when starting out.
These conversations have been fascinating, so we compiled a list of the 10 mistakes we hear most often into a nifty lil' guide. Get the 10 Most Common Mistakes in Starting an Online Business here »

Guys, great episode.
I read Traction the day it came out, and for the longest time I thought I was the only one that read it! Hearing your take on each channel is super enlightening.
One thing I think that could have been addressed a little more is the process of actually testing the channels. In the book they explain kind of a lean startup method to record your results.
Basically when you try a channel, you want to see:
1. cost per customer
2. volume of reach
3. conversion rate
4. time to setup
5. time to see results
So, in order to really test if a channel is working you need to test a different channel to compare to. You guys touched on this, I just wanted to expand on it a little.
Dig it guys!
Tim, you’re spot on. We didn’t really have time to dive into the process of testing particular channels, but that’s something we could do in a future episode. More than anything, we wanted to make sure that listeners know there are so many ways to grow a business… And while content can be a great way to supplement other channels, it’s not always the only way to grow a business.
Thanks for pointing out the opportunity we have to cover things like cost per customer, reach, etc in the future. You da man!
Hi all
I like to seek some advice from everyone.
I start to think about this question because a thought came to my mind. Does it really matter to have the same username throughout the social media channels?
I’m sure we all know that usernames are important. Sometimes people will pay just to get the usernames they want because it is associated to them or their brands.
Taking my case for example. I have @leetucksing on Twitter and I have leetucksing.com but most of my friends call me bosslee :) because I was very much “entrepreneurial” as they know me to be. So I write on bosslee.co and also have my GitHub as bosslee.
What do you think? Is it messy or should I have everything as leetucksing?

Bahahahaha.
Thanks for the shout out gentleman. Good episode as always!
A great refresher, thanks! I often have your episodes playing whilst I’m working because you guys make me giggle, keep up the great work!
Good collection.
