The FizzleCo team is once again growing! We’re entering into an exciting stage of growth at Fizzle, and this is a great opportunity for the right person to join a very special little company.
Update (4/8/15): this position has been filled. We’ll be announcing our new team member very soon. Thank you to everyone who showed interest or applied.
Your responsibility on the team will be member success and satisfaction. This is an intensely customer-focused role. You’ll be interacting with Fizzle members every day to provide the support they need to get the most benefit possible from Fizzle.
You may recall that we posted a similar position last year. You may also be wondering what happened to Barrett Brooks, who we hired as our director of member success. Barrett’s role is expanding beyond member success and into member growth. Barrett will train and assist you as our newest team member, and this new position will report to Corbett Barr, our CEO.
We aim to delight customers, and you’re going to lead the charge. You’re going to provide such incredible customer support that our members won’t be able to stop talking about it. You thrive on ending each interaction with both you and the customer smiling, even when the customer is tough to handle or frustrated to begin with.
This position goes way beyond just answering support requests. It’s a big part of our most important company-wide goal: to make sure our customers are building successful online businesses and projects they’re truly proud of.
We don’t expect you to teach our members about entrepreneurship. You’ll be more of a concierge and facilitator.
You’ll become intimately familiar with Fizzle resources so you can onboard and guide our members through all Fizzle has to offer.
Here are some of the kinds of things you’ll do every week:
- Respond to between 40 and 75 customer support emails per day.
- Interact with members in our community forums, offering helpful suggestions about how Fizzle resources and features can be used.
- Be the team’s primary eyes and ears within the Fizzle community. You’ll know Fizzle members by name, and you’ll know who’s most successful, and who’s struggling. You’ll learn from member successes and failures and will suggest and implement ideas for making all of our members more successful and satisfied.
- Curate the most interesting and useful community conversations and customer success stories for our weekly community newsletter weekly, This Week in Fizzle.
- Interact with Fizzlers over social media, and post updates about new things happening within Fizzle.
- Coordinate and schedule our weekly Fizzle Friday group coaching sessions and our monthly Office Hours webinars.
- Serve as the point person for locally organized Fizzle meetups around the world.
To be successful in this role, you need to love talking with fizzlers, primarily through writing. You have to be a great writer and communicator, with clear, concise, and friendly answers. And you have to be quick. You’ll pride yourself on responding to people so quickly that they’re floored and appreciative.
FizzleCo is a special company with a very flexible, fun and supportive working environment. We prefer someone based in Portland, OR for this role (two of our founders live there), but we’re also open to hiring the best person for this job, no matter where they live.
If you want to join Corbett, Chase and Barrett as an important and early member of the FizzleCo family, please apply.
How to Apply
Please submit a cover letter explaining:
- Why you want to work as a member success specialist.
- Why you want to work for Fizzle, and not somewhere else.
- A description of a customer support experience you had recently that really stood out.
Then, please answer 3 of the following questions, just like you would if you had this position:
- I’m thinking about joining Fizzle, but I want to make sure there isn’t a contract or ongoing obligation. If I join today, can I cancel anytime?
- If I join Fizzle, are there any opportunities to talk with the team directly? I have some questions I’d like to ask about my situation.
- If I sign up for the $1 trial, can I still get the annual billing deal before my first month ends?
- Why did you choose the name Fizzle? Don’t you know that it means "to fail weakly"?
- I’ve been reading your blog and listening to your podcast every week. I finally got my website launched, and I’d love you to take a look. Here’s the site: http://myawesomesite.com Let me know what you think!
Getting to Know Each Other
This is a small team and everyone on the team has to wear a lot of hats. To make sure Fizzle is the right fit for you, and vice-versa, this role will start out as a half-time position and grow from there if we’re both smitten.
Starting salary is dependent on experience. Please include your salary requirements with the application.
Email everything to [email protected] and include “Member Success” in the subject line. If you attach a resume, please send it as a PDF file. Feel free to get creative with your application, but make sure you’ve followed all of the rules mentioned here.
One last important thing. We support entrepreneurs in this business, but we’re not looking for an entrepreneur in this role. We’re looking for someone who wants to join our team and stick with us for the long term. We want someone with a passion for learning new things and improving what you do. We’re not looking for someone to grow into another role at FizzleCo. This is a job for someone who is dedicated to customer support and success.
We look forward to hearing from you!

The Top 10 Mistakes in Online Business
Every week we talk with entrepreneurs. We talk about what’s working and what isn’t. We talk about successes and failures. We spend time with complete newbies, seasoned veterans, and everything in between.
One topic that comes up over and over again with both groups is mistakes made in starting businesses. Newbies love to learn about mistakes so they can avoid them. Veterans love to talk about what they wish they had known when starting out.
These conversations have been fascinating, so we compiled a list of the 10 mistakes we hear most often into a nifty lil' guide. Get the 10 Most Common Mistakes in Starting an Online Business here »

Damn, just took a position at a local startup, would have loved to work with Fizzle (and I do have the CS experience to back me too).
Congrats on the new job Braunson! Maybe we’ll talk next time you’re free :)
Thanks Corbett! We sure will!
Nice! So glad Fizzle is growing!
Wow you guys are killing it! Can’t wait to meet the new member of the Fizzle team!
Omg this is such an amazing opportunity!!!
Would absolutely LOVE to apply for this position but unfortunately, my shitty offline job won’t give me any extra time so maybe in the near future (once I escape from the rat race and I already have a plan!)
Shared this on social media btw, I wouldn’t be surprised if you find the right person right away.
Yay! What a great opportunity! Look out for my submission ;-)
Look forward to seeing it, Elizabeth :)
perhaps the only time I wish I wasn’t an entrepreneurial spirit. Would be a joy, i’m sure, to work with Corbett & team. Sounds like you all are doing well!
Thanks Cindy! Hope you’re doing well also.
Was interested until I read “not looking for entrepreneurs”
Aaah! My heart is literally going pitter patter over this. I would love to work with you guys. I would love to help foster your amazing community. I sure have to think about what giving up the big dollar job would mean, though
One question that seems to be in the minds of a few commenters: You are advertising to a bunch of people who signed up based on their entrepreneurial ambitions (boy, that’s hard to spell!), but you say that you don’t want an entrepreneur.
I understand you don’t want to replace this position every 6 months, but can you expand on this? This would be an amazing apprenticing opportunity for somebody who wants to be an entrepreneur “soon-ish” but is willing to put that on hold to kill it as a supporter of entrepreneurs for a couple years and learn from the masters.
Hey Chris – it’s a great question. This is the issue Fizzle as a company is going to have to deal with everytime we hire. We can’t afford to bring people on who will only be with us for a short time. We’re really looking for people who can commit for the long haul, to help us build a world-class company and world-class member support process.
Perhaps we need other opportunities for apprenticeships that entrepreneurs can fill for a short time. That’s a great idea actually – and something I think we should pursue.
That makes a lot of sense for your business, Corbett. I think that it’s great that you guys are very up front about what you are and aren’t looking for.
By the way, I’ve hired dozens of people and been hired a few times as well. That is by far the best job ad I’ve ever seen. It’s very clear about what you need, and what the applicant can expect without reading like a corporate job description. Kudos, sir.
Thanks Chris! We appreciate that. I put this together after studying 37Signals old job posts and others that seemed innovative.
Hope to have my submission through sometime today. Question, when are you closing this off? I’m so excited I may bust a brain cell trying to write my cover letter lol
We plan to start reaching out to applicants for interviews next week Mirika.
Awesome. I had the same question. Thanks @corbettbarr:disqus !
Hey Corbett,
Just saw the announcement. Is it still too late to apply? I can’t wait to join the team >.<
Let's make Fizzle more than awesome. It needs to be like "BAM!"
Was found very informatic. . . .thanks keep it up
You may have this to be an entrepreneur in residence thing.
OMG, so you have something else than blog and podcast? Ok, i ll take a look… ))
Yes indeed. Fizzle is online training + community for independent entrepreneurs who want to build a business they believe in. We produce our blog and podcast so that people can learn from us for free, but we believe the Fizzle community is the best place to make regular positive progress in building a business.
I am so BEYOND interested in this!! Are you still accepting applications?
Is this position still open? I am SO interested!
