The Top 10 Mistakes in Online Business
Every week we talk with entrepreneurs. We talk about what’s working and what isn’t. We talk about successes and failures. We spend time with complete newbies, seasoned veterans, and everything in between.
One topic that comes up over and over again with both groups is mistakes made in starting businesses. Newbies love to learn about mistakes so they can avoid them. Veterans love to talk about what they wish they had known when starting out.
These conversations have been fascinating, so we compiled a list of the 10 mistakes we hear most often into a nifty lil' guide. Get the 10 Most Common Mistakes in Starting an Online Business here »

Straight talk with Barret A. Brooks! I like it. Sometimes people need to be called out. If you’re not trying and not passionate about being good at what you’re doing of course life will feel mundane! Great fun talk Fizzle crew.
Great episode, guys. I am working a day job and building a business that helps people be fulfilled no matter what their circumstances, and also get clarity about the future they wish to create. Find their groove and make their life sing. (Big need here, based on the silly articles you found while doing your research.) I wrote a manifesto to keep my mind and attitude positive in the midst of a toxic environment, and it has grown from there. Service, self motivation, gratitude, a strong sense of identity, and internal validation are key. Learn how to succeed there, and you know you can succeed anywhere. That serves you in good stead when you ultimately start your own business. Happy to discuss further if you want sometime. Keep up the fantastic work! Encouragement and inspiration helps a lot.
All the best,
Kathleen
Thank you for this one. I work for a major telecom company and have been slotted into a job I loath because the company changes how things are measured month by month. I would also like to hear about others in similar circumstances – I will be 63 this year and have what many would consider a great salary. Like others I was hit hard in the downturn and don’t see retirement as an option. But I long for something meaningful – so I’m curious as to the age distribution among Fizzlers. Are there other folks as many years young as me?
Thank you so much for this podcast. I really needed to hear this! I guess I am in the camp that has a day job and a business. My husband and I are wedding and portrait photographers. This is our primary income. However I also have a part time job during the week to supplement our non-steady photography income. Going from being a full-time photographer to having a day job has been killer. I do marketing for a cosmetic surgeon and oral surgeon. While they allow me to change my schedule as needed and I can occasionally work from home, I just don’t fit in and find myself bored most of the time. I am currently looking for a telecommute position. I am happiest and most productive working at home when I don’t have to deal with the office drama.
